This epic 5-day journey follows the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, crossing the legendary Kunlun Mountains and the vast Hoh Xil Nature Reserve, home to Tibetan antelopes. The route’s apex is Tanggula Pass (5,231m), the world’s highest railway pass. Witness nomadic life in Amdo, soak in Yangpachen Hot Springs, and marvel at the sacred turquoise waters of Namtso Lake (4,718m). The adventure culminates in Lhasa with iconic sites like the Potala Palace. This is a raw, high-altitude expedition into the untouched heart of Tibet.

  • Drive through Hoh Xil Nature Reserve (spot wild yaks & Tibetan antelopes)
  • Stop at Tuotuo River (Yangtze River source)
  • Overnight: Tuotuohe Town (4,500m) – basic guesthouse

Day 2Tuotuohe → Tanggula Pass → Namtso Lake

  • Visit Tibetan nomad tents en route
  • Afternoon arrival at Namtso Lake (4,718m) – one of Tibet’s three holy lakes
